Burly Cruz is merely five country gentlemen from Barren County, Kentucky who now reside in the cities of Bowling Green, Lexington, and Owensboro, Kentucky while attending separate colleges and holding day jobs. Though apart at times, they continue to share a love and a dream of singing their songs to all who will listen.
Burly Cruz started their musical journey together in 1998 as a group of talent show competitors. After receiving positive feedback from various audiences, it became apparent that the band held a great desire to expand their musical boundaries. All being close in age, the band members spent countless hours during their high school years rehearsing and discovering their unity. From this point forward, Burly Cruz acknowledged that there were fans to entertain rather than talent show judges. Very predictably, the band started booking shows within the area, which later led to better venues throughout the region. Since most of the shows Burly Cruz was booked for had an age limit of twenty-one and over, it was essential in the early days for the five underage band members to disguise their youth with their talent. As the band members entered their college years, their show bookings increased through greater club notoriety and expanded fan base. At this time the band found itself thriving on the college scene, by playing more often for larger crowds.
In June of 2007, Burly Cruz made their most recent recording of original material. Though they had been in the studio twice before, the band would now consider those times as being most valuable in terms of experience, for their current recording is their most accurate representation of their musical direction. While in the process of rehearsing for the June 2007 recording date, Burly Cruz composed their most successful tune to date. Though the song “50/50” was written only two days before the session, it received immediate attention and became the most requested song by Burly Cruz fans.
Currently the band is experiencing an all time high in CD sales while remaining an independent band. However, the ultimate goal for Burly Cruz, whether independently or as recording artists for a major label is to gain new fans through writing songs people can relate to.
