Brooks & Dunn
The Musical Journey of Country Power Duo
Brooks & Dunn are considered one of the most successful country music duos of all time. Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn first teamed up in 1990 after years of working separately to establish themselves in the Nashville music scene. Their debut album Brand New Man kicked off an incredibly successful partnership that lasted 20 years.
Brooks was born in Louisiana in 1955 and moved to Nashville in the late 1970s to pursue a career as a singer and songwriter. Dunn was born in Texas in 1953 and also moved to Music City where he worked as a solo artist and songwriter before meeting Brooks. When the two came together, their vocals blended magically and they developed a honky-tonk country sound reminiscent of the Everly Brothers.
Their career took off quickly with smash hits like “Brand New Man,” “My Next Broken Heart,” “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” and “Neon Moon.” Over the next two decades, Brooks & Dunn released 10 studio albums, had over 20 #1 singles, sold more than 30 million albums and won numerous industry awards. They are the best-selling country duo of all time.
Some key achievements include winning the CMA Vocal Duo of the Year award every year between 1992 and 2006 except 2000. They also won the ACM Vocal Duo of the Year award in 1990 and every year between 1992 and 2006. The duo was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2019.
After announcing their retirement in 2010, Brooks & Dunn stayed true to their word…for a while. In 2015, they reunited for a residency in Las Vegas with their pal Reba McEntire. This relaunched their performing careers and spawned a successful compilation album called Reboot in 2019 which featured contemporary artists covering their hit songs.
With an unparalleled career of over 30 years, Brooks & Dunn firmly cemented their place in country music history as both hitmakers and trendsetters. Their legendary musical journey continues today as they occasionally reunite for tours and performances much to the delight of their longtime fans.
