Trisha Yearwood has been one of the most prominent voices in country music for over 30 years. With her powerful vocals and relatable songwriting, Yearwood has captivated fans and influenced countless aspiring country artists.
Born in 1964 in Monticello, Georgia, Yearwood grew up surrounded by country music. She was singing by age 7 and in high school performed locally with a band. After graduating, she moved to Nashville to pursue music. She worked as a background singer while impressing executives with demo tapes of her original music.
Yearwood released her self-titled debut album in 1991 which included her first major hit “She’s in Love with the Boy”. This launched her into stardom and she won Best New Female Vocalist at the ACM Awards. Her second album “Hearts in Armor” had more hits like “Wrong Side of Memphis” and “Walkaway Joe”, cementing Yearwood as a major force in country.
Throughout the 90s, Yearwood continued releasing smash hits and platinum albums. Songs like “How Do I Live”, “In Another’s Eyes” and “There Goes My Baby” showed off Yearwood’s vocal power. She drew influences from legendary country singers like Patsy Cline and Linda Ronstadt. Yearwood also collaborated with peers like Garth Brooks, who she would later marry.
Yearwood has won 3 Grammy Awards, 3 ACM Awards and 1 CMA Award. She has released 12 studio albums, 40 singles, and has sold over 15 million albums worldwide. Some highlights of her discography include her debut album, 1993’s “The Song Remembers When”, 1997’s “Songbook” and 2005’s “Jasper County”.
Now aged 58, Yearwood continues recording and performing. She hosts an Emmy-winning cooking show called “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen”. Yearwood’s contributions have earned her the nickname “The First Lady of Country Music”. Her vocal prowess combined with relatable songwriting have made Trisha Yearwood one of the most beloved country stars of all time.
